Avondale is a census-designated place (CDP) in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, United States, on the West Bank of the Mississippi River. The population was 5,441 at the 2000 census. It is part of the New Orleans–Metairie–Kenner Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Harahan, Louisiana
Harahan is a city in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, United States, and a suburb of New Orleans. The population was 9,885 at the 2000 census. Harahan was named in honor of James Theodore Harahan, president of the Illinois Central Railroad from 1906-1911. The Illinois Central track runs parallel to Airline Highway.

Avondale Shipyard
Avondale Shipyard was an independent shipbuilding company, acquired by Litton Industries, in turn acquired by Northrop Grumman Corporation. Now, along with the former Ingalls Shipbuilding, the yard is part of Ingalls Shipbuilding. The yard is located on the West Bank of the Mississippi River in an area called Bridge City, approximately 20 miles upriver from New Orleans, Louisiana near Westwego, Louisiana.

Camp Harahan
Camp Harahan, also called Camp Plauche, was a troop staging area outside New Orleans, Louisiana during World War II. The camp served as a staging area for troops passing through the New Orleans Port of Embarkation. Its mission changed to that of a training base in 1942. Between 200,000 - 300,000 troops, including battalions of railroad troops, port troops and hospital men were organized and trained there.

NOLA Motorsports Park
NOLA Motorsports Park is a road race track in Avondale, Louisiana, approximately twenty minutes from downtown New Orleans. The kart circuit and North Track circuits opened in Q4 2011. The park also includes Red Creek NOLA, an offroad park that uses an additional 1,000 acres adjoining the property. Future plans include completion of a South Track. When linked with the North Track will form a five-mile course, making it the longest race track in North America.
