Midway, Kentucky
Midway is a city in Woodford County, Kentucky, United States. Its population was 1,620 at the 2000 census. It is located midway between Frankfort and Lexington along the single-track railroad between them. It is part of the Lexington-Fayette Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town is home to a major thoroughbred race horse breeding operation, Three Chimneys Farm. In 2003, faced with a declining downtown, a major streetscape renovation project began as part of Main Street Kentucky.
Midway College
Midway College is an independent, liberal arts college with approximately 1,800 students located in Midway, Kentucky. Related by covenant to the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), it currently offers two and four-year degrees. Midway is the only women's college in Kentucky. The all-female Day College offers majors in four pillar programs: business, equine studies, nursing, and teacher education.
Woodburn Stud
Woodburn Stud was an American horse breeding farm located in Woodford County, Kentucky about ten miles (16 km) from the city of Lexington. It was established in the 18th century as an original land grant property of General Hugh Mercer to whom it had been granted for his military services during the American Revolutionary War. Robert Alexander (1767–1841), a Scottish immigrant, came to Virginia from Scotland in 1786. Around 1790 he purchased the Mercer estate in Kentucky.
WinStar Farm
WinStar Farm is an American Thoroughbred horse breeding and racing farm near Versailles, Kentucky. Formerly known as Prestonwood Farm, it was owned by Houston, Texas oilmen Jack, Art, and J. R. Preston whose better known horses included Da Hoss and Victory Gallop. In 2000, Kenny Troutt and Bill Casner, both with long-standing interests in horses came together to purchase Prestonwood, adding to its area, and renaming it WinStar Farm. Included in the purchase were the stallions Kris S.
Lane's End Farm
Lane's End Farm is a thoroughbred race horse breeding farm in Versailles, Kentucky established in 1979. The original land was part of Bosque Bonita Farm which means beautiful woods and was originally owned by Abraham Buford, a Confederate Army General. The land was later bought by leading horseman, John H. Morris. Leamington, sire of Aristides, winner of the first Kentucky Derby, stood at stud at Bosque Bonita Farm in 1866.
