Ottawa is a city situated along the Marais des Cygnes River in the central part of Franklin County, located in east-central Kansas, 50 miles southwest of Kansas City, Kansas, in the central United States. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 12,649. It is the county seat and most populous city of Franklin County. Ottawa is included in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area.

Prairie Spirit Trail State Park is a rail trail that is a Kansas State Park. The trail is built on the former right of way of the Leavenworth, Lawrence and Galveston Railroad from Ottawa, Kansas, to Iola, Kansas. The trail runs 50 miles from its northern terminus at Ottawa, Kansas to its southern terminus at Iola, Kansas. The trail is open for use by hikers, joggers, and cyclists year-round, from sunrise to sunset.

Ottawa Senior High School, or Ottawa High School, is a public high school located in Ottawa, Kansas, serving students in grades 9-12. Its athletic teams, known as the Cyclones, compete in the Frontier Athletic League. The principal is Ryan Cobbs, the assistant principal is Mr. Bland, and the athletic director is Brad Graf. The current enrollment of the school is approximately 689 students, and the school has 102 teachers, secretaries, paras, and nurses.
Peoples Bank Field
Peoples Bank Field, formerly known as Cook Field, is a sport stadium in Ottawa, Kansas. The facility is primarily used by the Ottawa University football, soccer, and track & field teams. The field turf was added in 2007 and the facility is considered one of the best of its kind in the United States for small college football. The stadium is also used for local high school sporting events and other community events.
