Polk County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. The population was 430,640 in the 2010 census, an increase from 374,601 in the 2000 census, making it the most populous county in Iowa. It was designed by William Cobb, and built in-house utilizing the Frontier Construction Company. Soon after its opening it was considered one of the top ten wooden roller coasters in the world.

It was the second roller coaster built by Custom Coasters International, which soon became known as one of the world's premier builders of wooden roller coasters. The original spokesperson for The Outlaw was an old miner character who appeared in television, radio, and print advertisements for Adventureland.
