KRUI-FM
KRUI-FM is a radio station broadcasting a Variety format. Located in Iowa City, Iowa, USA, the station is licensed to Student Broadcasters Inc. KRUI began at the University of Iowa in 1952 as KWAD, and in 1968 the station's call letters changed to KICR. In 1984, the FCC granted an FM license to KRUI. KRUI is a student-run radio station, broadcasting at 100 watts from the Iowa Memorial Union on the University of Iowa campus. Air time is distributed among student DJs.
Ped Mall (Iowa City)
The Ped Mall, also known as the Pedestrian Mall, is a pedestrian mall located in downtown Iowa City, Iowa, near the University of Iowa campus. Spanning from Burlington Street to Washington Street and Clinton Street to Linn Street, the Ped Mall serves as a gathering place for students, locals, transients, and the homeless. It draws large crowds for its summertime events such as the Friday Night Concert Series and the annual Iowa City Jazz Festival and Iowa City Arts Festival.
Benton Street Bridge
Benton Street Bridge was a historically important bridge designed by Edward L. Ashton. It crossed the Iowa River in Iowa City. In 1989 it was demolished and replaced with a modern highway bridge. A historical marker nearby describes the old bridge. Ned Ashton has been called "the most distinguished bridge engineer in the history of Iowa and was a professor of civil engineering at the University of Iowa from 1943 to 1957.
