Sageville is a city in Dubuque County, Iowa, United States. The population was 122 at the 2010 census, down from 203 at the 2000 census.
Dubuque Arboretum and Botanical Gardens
The Dubuque Arboretum and Botanical Gardens 52 acres are an arboretum and botanical gardens established in 1980 and located at 3800 Arboretum Drive, Dubuque, Iowa. It is open without charge seven days a week from May 1 to October 31, and weekdays the remainder of the year. The arboretum is the largest in the United States staffed entirely by volunteers, and over 375 people help maintain the gardens. The Arboretum is a popular spot in the community for outdoor weddings.
Heritage Trail (Iowa)
Heritage Trail is a 26-mile long multiuse rail trail connecting Dubuque and Dyersville, Iowa. It is maintained by the Dubuque County Conservation Board, and was converted from a segment of the former Chicago Great Western railroad line between Chicago and Oelwein, Iowa. Surfaced with compacted, crushed limestone and possessing no grade greater than one percent, the trail is shared by cyclists and hikers, and in winter by snowmobilers and cross-country skiers.
Little Maquoketa River Mounds State Preserve
The Little Maquoketa River Mounds State Preserve is an Iowa state owned archaeological site and natural area located within the city of Sageville (just north of Dubuque) on U.S. Highway 52. It is high up on a limestone ridge above the Little Maquoketa River, not too far from the river's mouth with the Upper Mississippi River. Covering about 42 acres, it contains a fenced-in 3-acre burial area with 32 mounds. The graves have been related to the Late Woodland culture, about AD 700-1200.
