Black Hawk County is a county located in the northeastern part of U.S. state of Iowa. The population was 131,090 in the 2010 census, an increase from 128,012 in 2000. Black Hawk County has the fourth largest population for counties in the state. The majority of the county's population resides in the Waterloo-Cedar Falls urbanized area. Waterloo, the county seat, is located approximately 65 miles east of I-35 at the intersection of U.S. Highways 20, 63 and 218.

Hawkeye Community College

Hawkeye Community College is a community college, with its main campus located just outside Waterloo, Iowa. Hawkeye has several outlying centers in Cedar Falls, Independence, Grundy County, Waverly, and Waterloo. The college serves all of parts of Benton, Black Hawk, Bremer, Buchanan, Butler, Chickasaw, Fayette, Floyd, Grundy, and Tama counties in Iowa. The Hawkeye Institute of Technology opened on July 1, 1966, replacing the Waterloo Area Vocational School.

The mall opened in 1970, and is owned by Jones Lang LaSalle. Cedar Valley Arboretum & Botanic Gardens

The Cedar Valley Arboretum & Botanic Gardens (the Arboretum) is situated on 74 acres directly east of Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo, Iowa. The Arboretum is open April through October, dawn to dusk, and admission is free to the public. The Arboretum is an official site of the Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area.
