Appanoose County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. The population was 12,884 in the 2010 census, a decline from 13,721 in 2000. Its county seat is Centerville. The county was once a major coal-mining region. In recent decades, the state has made an effort to develop manufacturing as an alternate form of employment.
