Hammond Circus Train Wreck
The Hammond Circus Train Wreck occurred on June 22, 1918, and was one of the worst train wrecks in US history. Eighty-six people died and another 127 were injured when a locomotive engineer fell asleep and ran his train into the rear of another near Hammond, Indiana.

Gary Airport/Clark Road is a South Shore Line commuter station serving the city of Gary, Indiana. It is one of three NICTD electric train stations in Gary, and serves the Gary/Chicago International Airport, although it does not provide direct access to the airport. NICTD gives the address as being on Clark Road near 2nd Avenue, approximately 1 mile from Airport terminal, although it's actually on the corner of 2nd Place, one block south of the given location.

Black Oak is a neighborhood located on the far southwest side of Gary, Indiana. Located in Gary's southwest corner, Black Oak adjoins the town of Griffith and unincorporated Calumet Township; within Gary, neighboring neighborhoods include Glen Park to the east and Tolleston and Westside to the north.
