Westin Peachtree Plaza Hotel
The Westin Peachtree Plaza, Atlanta is a skyscraper hotel on Peachtree Street in downtown Atlanta, Georgia adjacent to the Peachtree Center complex and the former Davison's/Macy's flagship store. At 220.37 m and 73 stories and a 57 m diameter, the tower is the second-tallest all-hotel skyscraper in the Western Hemisphere, and the 17th tallest all-hotel building in the world.
History of Atlanta
The history of Atlanta dates back to 1836, when Georgia decided to build a railroad to the U.S. Midwest and a location was chosen to be the line's terminus. The stake marking the founding of "Terminus" was driven into the ground in 1837 (called the Zero Mile Post). In 1839 homes and a store were built there and the settlement grew.

WNNX (100.5 FM, "Rock 100.5") is an Atlanta radio station that is owned and operated by Cumulus Media. The station broadcasts from the same building as its other Cumulus Atlanta sister stations WWWQ ("Q100"), W250BC ("Q100 20 @ 97-9"), and WKHX ("Kicks 101-5") in Sandy Springs near the Georgia Highway 400 and Interstate 285 interchange. WNNX's main transmitter is located in downtown Atlanta atop the Westin Peachtree Plaza Hotel, the skyscraper well known for its reflective glass cylinder shape.
Georgia World Congress Center
The Georgia World Congress Center or GWCC is the major convention center in Atlanta. It is the fourth-largest convention center in the United States at 3.9 million ft (360,000 m) and hosts more than a million visitors each year. At the time opened in 1976 the Georgia World Congress Center was the first state owned Convention Center in the United States.
Georgia Aquarium
The Georgia Aquarium houses 120,000 animals, representing 500 species, in 8.5 million US gallons of marine and fresh water; it was the world's largest aquarium when it opened in 2005. Businessman Bernard Marcus credits his 60th birthday dinner, held at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, with inspiring him to build a great aquarium for Atlanta; his subsequent $250 million donation provided the bulk of the money needed to build and stock the new facility.
Georgia Dome
The Georgia Dome is a domed stadium located in Atlanta, Georgia, United States, between downtown to the east and Vine City to the west. It is primarily the home stadium for the NFL's Atlanta Falcons and the NCAA's Georgia State Panthers football team. It is owned and operated by the State of Georgia as part of the Georgia World Congress Center Authority. The Georgia Dome was the largest domed structure in the world until 1999, when London's Millennium Dome was completed.
Philips Arena
Philips Arena is a multi-purpose indoor arena located in Atlanta, Georgia. It was completed and opened in 1999 to replace (and occupying the former site of) The Omni, at a cost of $213.5 million. Philips Arena is home to the Atlanta Hawks, of the National Basketball Association, and the Atlanta Dream, of the Women's National Basketball Association. It also served as home to the National Hockey League's Atlanta Thrashers from 1999-2011, before the team moved to Winnipeg.
Omni Coliseum
The Omni Coliseum, usually called The Omni, from the Latin for "all," or "every", was an indoor arena located in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. Completed in 1972, the arena seated 16,378 for basketball and 15,278 for hockey. It was part of the Omni Complex, now known as the CNN Center. Demolished in 1997, the only remaining reminder is the scoreboard from the Omni that now hangs in the pavilion of the Philips Arena.
Centennial Olympic Park
Centennial Olympic Park is a 21 acre (85,000 m²) public park located in downtown Atlanta, Georgia owned and operated by the Georgia World Congress Center Authority. The park was built by the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games (ACOG) as part of the infrastructure improvements for the Centennial 1996 Summer Olympics.
WTHC-LD
WTHC-LD is a low-power television station located on channel 42 in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. From 1994 to 2007, it was owned and operated by The Atlanta Channel, Inc. , which also broadcast the channel into many local hotels. Programming consists almost entirely of recorded information for tourists staying in downtown hotels, although the signal can usually be picked-up as far away as Sandy Springs, about ten miles or 15 km away.
WTBS-LD
WTBS-LP and WTBS-LD is a low-power TV station on TV channels 26 and 30 in metro Atlanta. The city of license is Atlanta, and the analog transmitter and antenna are located in downtown Atlanta atop the Westin Peachtree Plaza Hotel, along with WTHC-LD 42, WNNX FM 100.5, and a backup for WZGC FM 92.9. The digital station, which signed on in early January 2011, is located just northeast of the city on one of the two large towers in North Druid Hills, along with several other stations.
CNN Center
The CNN Center is the world headquarters of the Cable News Network. The main newsrooms and studios for several of CNN's news channels are located in the building. The facility's commercial office space is occupied entirely by CNN and its parent company, Turner Broadcasting System, a subsidiary of Time Warner. The CNN Center is located in Downtown Atlanta, Georgia, adjacent to Centennial Olympic Park.
World of Coca-Cola
The World of Coca-Cola, is a permanent exhibition featuring the history of The Coca-Cola Company. Its well-known advertising as well as a host of entertainment areas and attractions, and is located in Atlanta, Georgia (where the company's headquarters are located) at Pemberton Place (named in honor of John Pemberton, the inventor of Coca-Cola). 20-acre as part of Georgia's museums.
Fairlie-Poplar, Atlanta
The Fairlie-Poplar Historic District is part of the central business district in downtown Atlanta. It is named for the two streets that cross at its center, northeast-only Fairlie and southeast-only Poplar. Fairlie-Poplar is immediately north of Five Points, the definitive centerpoint and longtime commercial heart of Atlanta.
American Cancer Society Center
The American Cancer Society Center is a large convention center and office building in downtown Atlanta, adjacent to Centennial Olympic Park. The building contains about 1,500,000 square feet, including a partially underground parking garage and loading area. The building, originally called the Inforum Technology Center or Inforum, was designed by the prominent Atlanta architect John Portman, who previously designed the AmericasMart buildings.
Dome / GWCC / Philips Arena / CNN Center (MARTA station)
Dome / GWCC / Philips Arena / CNN Center is an at-grade rail station on the Blue and Green lines of the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) rail system, located on the western edge of Downtown Atlanta. The station was officially opened on December 22, 1979. When the station first opened in 1979, it was called Omni station due to its proximity to the now-demolished Omni Coliseum.

AmericasMart Atlanta is located in Atlanta, Georgia and is one of the world's largest permanent wholesale trade centers. AmericasMart Atlanta consists of four buildings totaling seven million square feet. The Mart opened in 1957 and hosts several trade shows every year including Market Wednesday, Atlanta Apparel, Atlanta Spring Immediate Delivery, and The Atlanta International Gift and Home Furnishings Market.
Pemberton Place
Pemberton Place, located in downtown Atlanta, Georgia, just north of Centennial Olympic Park in the Luckie Marietta district, is a complex that is home to the Georgia Aquarium, the World of Coca-Cola, and the planned National Center for Civil and Human Rights. It is named after John Pemberton, the inventor of Coca-Cola.
Coca-Cola Olympic City
Coca-Cola Olympic City was an 8-acre plaza in downtown Atlanta, Georgia, adjacent to the city's Centennial Olympic Park. It was built in concurrence with the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games in Atlanta. Managed by Orlando based Baker Leisure Group, the featured three key areas that displayed Olympic based virtual reality sports attractions. The first area allowed patrons to play a h-o-r-s-e style game call, "HOOPS" against Grant Hill.
Atlanta Union Station (1930)
The Union Station built in 1930 in Atlanta was the smaller of two principal train stations in downtown, Terminal Station being the other. It was the third "union station" or "union depot" (usage varied in the 19th century), succeeding the 1853 station, burned in the Battle of Atlanta, and the 1871 station. The station was located over the tracks between Forsyth and Spring Streets, 3 blocks west and 1 block south of the predecessor union stations.
Atlanta Constitution Building
The Atlanta Constitution Building, also known as the Georgia Power Atlanta Division Building, is located at the northwest corner of Alabama and Forsyth Streets in downtown Atlanta, Georgia, at 143 Alabama Street, SW. It is located in an area known as the "Heart of Atlanta" straddling the railroad gulch ("The Gulch"), "due to [its its] proximity to the 'Zero Mile Post' which marked both the Southeastern terminus of the Western and Atlantic railroad and the city's earliest settlement".
Masonic Temple (Atlanta)
The Masonic Temple was located at the northwest corner of Peachtree Street and Cain Street (now Andrew Young International Blvd. ) in Downtown Atlanta from 1909-1950. The architect was John Robert Dillon. In September 1950 a fire gutted the building. It was replaced by a parking structure which still stands today.
Imagine It! The Children's Museum of Atlanta
Imagine It! The Children's Museum of Atlanta is a children's museum located in Atlanta, Georgia, founded in 1988 and opened in 2003. The Museum is located Downtown, adjacent to Centennial Olympic Park. The Museum hosts three exhibits per year.
The Flair
The Flair is a bronze statue in Atlanta, Georgia by artist Richard MacDonald finished in 1996 before the 1996 Summer Olympics. It stands just east of the Georgia Dome in the Georgia World Congress Center complex. The Flair is dedicated to the Olympic athletes and to "all those who exemplify determination and dedication in the pursuit of excellence. " The sculpture was a gift of Mr MacDonald to the state and to the city. Is was dedicated on July 8, 1996.
