Morgan Falls Dam
Bull Sluice Lake is created by Morgan Falls Dam, a small hydroelectric dam located along the Chattahoochee River at the northern end of Sandy Springs, Georgia, and crossing the river westwards into eastern Cobb County in north metro Atlanta. Originally constructed in 1904 by Georgia Power to provide electricity for Atlanta's streetcars, it now provides enough power for about 4,400 homes. It was named for then recently deceased Georgia Power president S.
Bull Sluice Lake
Bull Sluice Lake is a small reservoir located along the Chattahoochee River in northern Georgia, in the northern suburbs of metro Atlanta. It is 673 acres, and is impounded by the Morgan Falls Dam. Besides the hydroelectric power produced by the dam, the lake's primary use is recreation, including fishing and rowing.
Chattahoochee Plantation, Georgia
Chattahoochee Plantation is an area of east-southeastern Cobb County, Georgia, which was incorporated as a city in 1961 as a legislated boundary to prevent the city of Atlanta from annexing into Cobb County. Despite this, it never organized a city government, and its city charter was revoked along with dozens of others in 1995. The "city" was only ten feet wide and approximately seven miles long.
Chattahoochee Nature Center
The Chattahoochee Nature Center is a private, non-profit environmental education facility in Roswell, Georgia. Located on 127 acres adjacent to the Chattahoochee River, the nature center focuses on educational outreach through the use of live flora and fauna. An on-site wildlife clinic operates at the center for the rehabilitation and release of reptiles, amphibians, and birds of prey. Animals that can not be released back into the wild remain on-site.
Johnson Ferry
Johnson's Ferry or the Johnson Ferry was an important ferry linking what is now Atlanta, across the Chattahoochee River into Northwest Georgia. The name "Johnson" has been corrupted over the years from the owner's name, which was really "Johnston", therefore the ferry was originally called "Johnston's Ferry". There is an historical plaque located on the present Johnson Ferry Road which documents that ownership.
WFGM (AM)
WFGM AM 830 is a new radio station to be built in metro Atlanta. As of October 2009, it has a construction permit but is not on the air. The permit is currently held by WFGM Radio Corp. It is permitted for 50 kilowatts in the daytime, and 450 watts at night. The mast radiators are in a directional array, using three towers in the daytime, and all four at night. These will be located in the north-central part of Morgan Falls Park, east of Morgan Falls Dam, in north-northwestern Sandy Springs.
Willeo Creek
Willeo Creek is a 6.7-mile-long stream in the U.S. state of Georgia, and is located in the north-northwestern part of metro Atlanta. It is a significant tributary of the Chattahoochee River, into which it flows at Bull Sluice Lake, just upstream from Morgan Falls Dam and downstream from the Chattahoochee Nature Center. Together, the two streams form nearly all of the county line between Fulton to the east and Cobb to the west.
Marietta Ice Center
The Marietta Ice Center is the oldest ice skating rink in metro Atlanta, Georgia. Located in the suburban city of Marietta, Georgia it contains two sheets of ice, a larger rink that is regulation hockey sized, and a smaller rink that is more suitable for open skate.
