Greenville, Delaware
Greenville is a census-designated place (CDP) in New Castle County, Delaware, United States. The population was 2,326 at the 2010 census. The CDP is an affluent bedroom community and a suburb of Wilmington, Delaware and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The community is also home to many Du Pont family descendants.
Alexis I. duPont High School
Alexis I. duPont High School is a public high school located in Greenville, Delaware, USA, a suburb of Wilmington. It is one of three high schools in the Red Clay Consolidated School District. There were 1,481 students enrolled in the fall for the 2008-2009 school year. Founded in 1893, Alexis I. duPont (A.I. ) moved to its current location in 1966, when the old high school was re-purposed as a middle school to handle grades 5 through 8. The students of A.I.
Tatnall School
The Tatnall School is a private college prep school in Greenville, Delaware, for students from three years old through 12th grade. The school was founded as an all-girls school in 1930 by Frances Dorr Swift Tatnall at her home in downtown Wilmington, Delaware, and moved to its current location in 1952. Tatnall began to admit boys in 1952 (the class of 1964). The school's mascot is the hornet. Its motto is "Omnia in caritate", which means all things in love.
Eleutherian Mills
From 1802 to 1921, Eleutherian Mills was a gunpowder mill site used for the manufacture of explosives by the Du Pont family business. The name also refers to the house on the hill above the mills, which was the first Du Pont family home in America. The business was founded by Eleuthère Irénée du Pont. In 1952, the site became an outdoor museum and the Hagley Museum and Library was founded.
