New London is a seaport city and a port of entry on the northeast coast of the United States. It is located at the mouth of the Thames River (pronounced as to rhyme with "James") in New London County, southeastern Connecticut. New London is located about 107 miles from Boston, Massachusetts, 56 miles from Providence, Rhode Island, 85 miles from New Bedford, Massachusetts, and about 128 miles from New York City.
Connecticut College
Connecticut College (Conn College or Conn) is a private liberal arts college located in New London, in the U.S. state of Connecticut. The college was founded in 1911, as Connecticut College for Women, in response to Wesleyan University closing its doors to women (the college changed its name to Connecticut College in 1969 when it began admitting men). The campus is located on the Thames River, overlooking the Long Island Sound on the highest point in New London.
United States Coast Guard Academy
Founded in 1876, the United States Coast Guard Academy (USCGA) is the military academy of the United States Coast Guard. Located in New London, Connecticut, it is the smallest of the five federal service academies. The academy provides education to future Coast Guard officers in one of eight major fields of study. Unlike the other service academies, admission to the academy does not require a congressional nomination. Students are officers-in-training and are referred to as cadets.

Cadet Memorial Field
Cadet Memorial Field is an outdoor athletic facility on the campus of the United States Coast Guard Academy, on the banks of the Thames River in New London, Connecticut. The stadium hosts the Academy's football and soccer teams, and, owing to the dramatic view of the river, is regarded as one of the most picturesque venues in New England small college football. The Academy competes in NCAA Division III. The stadium was originally named Jones Field, in honor of Cadet Henry L.

The Lyman Allyn Art Museum was founded in 1932 by Harriet Upson Allyn.
