The Griswold Inn
The Griswold Inn, located in Essex, Connecticut, is the oldest continuously run tavern in the United States of America. Founded by three brothers in the late 18th century, it has been under the stewardship of only 6 families. The Inn was captured by British troops and used as a base of operations during the War of 1812. During prohibition the Inn still maintained a lively entertainment schedule for the local yachtsmen.
Centerbrook
Centerbrook is a hamlet located in the town of Essex, Connecticut. The village is home to numerous businesses, the Essex Steam Train, a post office, and Essex Elementary School. It has many houses but it is generally considered the more commercial part of Essex. The village consists of the area immediately west of the Route 9 expressway, extending southwest along Route 153 to Tiffany Brook, west along Main Street to Earl Street, and north along Route 154 to Route 9.

The Valley Railroad is a heritage railroad based in Connecticut originally founded in 1868. It is best known for operating the Essex Steam Train and the Essex Clipper Dinner Train.
WLIS
WLIS is a radio station licensed to serve Old Saybrook, Connecticut. The station is owned by Crossroads Communications of Old Saybrook, LLC. It airs a Talk/Nostalgia format. The station has been assigned the WLIS call letters by the Federal Communications Commission since it was initially licensed. A pirate broadcaster unrelated to the licensed station has also used the call sign WLIS (We Love Interval Signals).
First Baptist Church of Essex, Connecticut
The First Baptist Church of Essex, Connecticut, built in 1846, is notable for being one of only three Egyptian revival churches known to have ever been built in the United States. The architect was Minard Lafever. The handsome, white clapboard building features a tripartite facade, the central section of which is a frustum that rises to support the cupola. The church's original steeple was destroyed after being struck by lightning in 1925.
Deep River Marina
Deep River Marina is located on the Connecticut River in Deep River, Connecticut. The marina is on a calm stretch of tidal fresh water off the main channel and is well protected from passing wakes and foul weather. Deep River is well sited, above popular Essex and below Hartford. Its only neighbor is the Essex Valley Railroad, which makes several tourist runs a day along the marina's property line.
Connecticut River Museum
The Connecticut River Museum is a U.S. educational and cultural institution based at Steamboat Dock in Essex, Connecticut that focuses on the marine environment and maritime heritage of the Connecticut River Valley. The three-story Connecticut River Museum is located in a restored 1878 steamboat warehouse. The museum opened to the public in 1975, with Connecticut Governor Ella Grasso as its first paid member and ex officio patron.
Essex Historic District
Essex Historic District was a proposed district, nominated for listing on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. It would have included parts of Main, N. Main, S. Main, and W. Main Sts. , in Essex, Connecticut. The NRIS database recorded, on June 21, 1978, with reference number 78003525, that the district received listing status of DR, which means "Date Received/Pending Nomination". There apparently was no further National Register action, and the district was not listed.
