Connecticut

Connecticut is the southernmost U.S. state in the New England region of the northeastern United States. It is bordered by Rhode Island to the east, Massachusetts to the north, and New York to the west and the south (with which it shares a water boundary in Long Island Sound). Connecticut is named for the Connecticut River, a major U.S. river that approximately bisects the state. Its capital city is Hartford.

Coginchaug River

The Coginchaug River in Connecticut, with a watershed of 39 square miles including forests, pastures, farmland, industrial, and commercial areas, is the predominant tributary of the Mattabesset River. 15.5 miles long, it flows mostly north from Myer Huber Pond in Guilford, Connecticut (about 1.2 miles by road south of the Durham line, and about 400 feet west of Route 77) into Durham and then Middlefield, meeting the Mattabesset in Middletown, about 0.8 miles upstream of the Connecticut River.

Starr Mill

Two 19th century factory buildings are sited on a bank beside Starr Mill pond on Beverly Heights just off Middlefield Street. Each building is 3½ stories tall, and overlooks a picturesque pond and woods to the west; a parking lot packed with trucks and industrial equipment on the south; and nineteenth century housing on Beverly Heights to the north.

Palmer Field

Palmer Field is a multi-use baseball, soccer, and football stadium located in Middletown, Connecticut. The Field is home to the Xavier High School baseball and football teams, and is also used by the Middletown American Legion Baseball team. The bleachers surrounding the baseball diamond are a part of William Pomfret Stadium, as it reads on the back of the pressbox.

Smith Park

Smith Park is a park in Middletown, Connecticut, USA, which was acquired by the town in 1974. It is located on the north side of Country Club Road in Middletown. It has 50 acres of land that include ball fields, a playground, hiking trails, horseshoe pits, shuffleboards, and a pavilion. Permission can be obtained from the Middletown Park and Recreation Commission to host a family outing or company picnic at the pavilion, though handicapped access is limited.
