East Catholic High School
East Catholic High School is a Catholic, college preparatory high school located in Manchester, Connecticut and part of the Archdiocese of Hartford. The parochial school was founded in 1961 and is inspired by the charism of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. East Catholic is the only school in the Archdiocese of Hartford that has had the continued presence of its founding order throughout its history. During the 2011–2012 school year, East has 690 students in grades 9–12, with 47 teachers.

The Shoppes at Buckland Hills, formerly known as Buckland Hills Mall and The Pavilions at Buckland Hills, is a shopping mall located in Manchester, Connecticut. The mall opened in March 1990 as "The Pavilions at Buckland Hills". The area of land was purchased from the Red Rock Golf Course. The I-84 corridor encompassing the towns of Manchester and(eventually) South Windsor began a transformation that continues today.

The Hilliard Mills complex is located at 642 Hilliard Street in Manchester, Connecticut, west of Adams Street. This historic mill site currently consists of six buildings, roughly 104,000 square feet of space on over five acres of land at the confluence of the Bigelow Brook and Hockanum River. The site is listed on the State of Connecticut List of Historic Places.
Manchester Memorial Hospital
Manchester Memorial Hospital is an acute care hospital located in central Manchester, Connecticut, an eastern Connecticut community about 10 minutes east of Hartford. The hospital opened in 1920 and was dedicated as a memorial to all Manchester residents who died during the First World War. In 1970, the hospital was rededicated as a memorial to veterans of all wars. MMH is a 249-bed facility.

The name was collected by the United States Geological Survey between 1976 and 1979, and entered into the Geographic Names Information System on September 12, 1979.

The location of the crime was a warehouse owned by Hartford Distributors, a beer distribution company. The gunman, former employee Omar Shariff Thornton (born April 25, 1976) shot and killed eight people before turning a gun on himself.
