Arnold Palmer staged the greatest comeback in U.S. Open history, erasing a seven-stroke deficit during the final round to win his only U.S. Open title. It is remembered as a crossroads for the three primary contenders in the final round: Palmer, Ben Hogan, and Jack Nicklaus; three of the greatest players in the history of golf.

The 1978 U.S. Open was the 78th U.S. Open. The golf tournament was held June 15–18, 1978, at Cherry Hills Country Club in Englewood, Colorado, a suburb south of Denver. Andy North held on for an one-stroke victory over Dave Stockton and J. C. Snead to claim his first U.S. Open title. Andy North began the final round with an one-stroke lead over Gary Player. Two months earlier, Player had won The Masters with a blistering 64 in the final round.
1938 U.S. Open (golf)
The 1938 U.S. Open was the 42nd U.S. Open. The golf tournament was held June 9–11, 1938, at Cherry Hills Country Club in Englewood, Colorado, a suburb south of Denver. Ralph Guldahl successfully defended his U.S. Open title with a six-stroke victory over Dick Metz. Metz owned a four-stroke lead over Guldahl going into the final round, but Metz struggled and shot a 79 to finish at 290.
1985 PGA Championship
The 1985 PGA Championship was the 67th PGA Championship, held from August 8–11 at Cherry Hills Country Club in Cherry Hills Village, Colorado, a suburb south of Denver. Hubert Green won his first PGA Championship and second major title, two strokes ahead of defending champion Lee Trevino. It was Green's 19th and final victory on the PGA Tour.

The 2005 U.S. Women's Open Golf Championship was contested from June 23 to June 26 at Cherry Hills Country Club in Cherry Hills Village, Colorado, a suburb of Denver. It was the 60th edition of the U.S. Women's Open, with the par-71 course set at 6,749 yards at an average elevation over 5,300 feet above sea level. The champion was Birdie Kim of South Korea, who holed out from a greenside bunker on the 72nd hole.
