Cupertino is a city in Santa Clara County, California in the U.S. , directly west of San Jose on the western edge of the Santa Clara Valley with portions extending into the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains. The population was 58,302 at the 2010 census. Forbes ranked it as one of the most educated small towns. It is home to the worldwide headquarters of Apple Inc. Money's Best Places to Live, "America's best small towns," ranked Cupertino as #27 in 2012, the 2nd highest in California.
De Anza College
De Anza College is a 112-acre community college located in Cupertino, California. It was founded in 1967 on the site of the Beaulieu Winery and is named after the Spanish explorer Juan Bautista de Anza. Along with the arrival and growth of Apple Computer, the presence of De Anza College contributed significantly to the growth of Cupertino from a small town to an industrial city and an integral part of Silicon Valley.
Monta Vista High School
Monta Vista High School is a four-year comprehensive public high school located in the Silicon Valley city of Cupertino, California, USA. Part of the Fremont Union High School District, the school serves most of the suburban residential and industrial technology enriched area of western Cupertino. Monta Vista opened in 1969, offering only freshman and sophomore classes; the first class graduated in 1972. Since then, its student body size has averaged about 2400 students.
Monta Vista, Cupertino, California
Monta Vista is an upper-income residential neighborhood in western Cupertino, California. "Monta Vista" does not mean anything in any language but is very similar to "Monte Vista," which means "mountain view" in Spanish. However, it is not affiliated with the nearby city of Mountain View. Orchards and vineyards used to cover Monta Vista. After the 1940s, Monta Vista became the first housing tract in the Cupertino area. Residential homes then quickly replaced the orchards and vineyards.
Simla Junction, California
Simla Junction is a historic location in Los Altos, California, near the area of present-day Homestead Road and Foothill Expressway. It does not appear on current maps. The name was used for a rail junction on the Peninsular Railroad which ran interurban cars along the San Francisco Bay Area's peninsula until sometime in the 1940s. There was a wye-junction at the locale. The original rail right-of-way moved to accommodate changes to road systems and water mains.
McClellan Ranch Park
McClellan Ranch Park is a 23-acre public park located in the Monta Vista neighborhood of Cupertino that still retains its rural ranch look. It used to be a horse ranch owed by the McClellan family in the 1930s, and still preserves the original ranch house, a working milk barn and livestock barn, and two historical structures moved from other sites, along with a natural reserve in the middle of the park.
Measurex
Measurex was an American company based in Cupertino, California. Measurex was one of the first companies to develop computer control systems for industry, primarily the paper-making industry. The development of the control systems included the development of control software, and development of scanning sensors to measure different properties of paper. The company was acquired by Honeywell in March 1997, at a price tag of almost $600 million.
Mary Avenue Bridge
The Mary Avenue Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge over Interstate 280 (California) in Cupertino, California carrying bicycle and pedestrian traffic. North of I-280, Mary Avenue ends as a parking lot and drop-off area for Homestead High School. Bicyclists and pedestrians may cross I-280 using the bridge; Mary Avenue continues south of the highway. At night the bridge is lit up and is a beautiful sight for those driving on or crossing Interstate 280.
