During the 2004-2005 school year, 1,238 students were enrolled: 530 in the middle school and 708 in the high school. The school is named after nearby Guajome County Park.

The name means "stinking water" in Spanish. The grant extended south along the Pacific Coast from present day Carlsbad to Leucadia. The grant surrounded Agua Hedionda Lagoon.
Rancho Buena Vista (Felipe)
Rancho Buena Vista was a 2,288-acre Mexican land grant in present day San Diego County, California given in 1845 by Governor Pío Pico to Felipe, an Indian. The name means "good view" in Spanish. The grant was south of San Luis Rey River and Rancho Monserate and encompassed present day Vista.

The Descanso, Alpine and Pacific Railway is a 2-ft. gauge heritage railroad located in Alpine, California. This little operation is a sole proprietorship and has one locomotive, a 1935 Brookville Equipment Corporation unit. The railroad has three stations; Shade, El Pozo and High Pass. The railway offers free train rides and historical narration to the public on most Sundays.
Cuyamaca Outdoor School
The Cuyamaca Outdoor School is an outdoor school and overnight camp owned by San Diego County Office of Education and located in the Cuyamaca Rancho State Park and Cleveland National Forest in Descanso, California. During the school year students, generally 6th graders, come to learn subjects related to outdoor education, staying between four and five days. On campus there are several dormitory facilities, a dining hall, multipurpose room, activity building and infirmary.
