La Sierra University
La Sierra University (La Sierra or LSU) is a Seventh-day Adventist co-educational university located in Riverside, California, United States, and accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and the Adventist Accrediting Association. La Sierra offers undergraduate, graduate and doctoral level degrees. Founded in 1922 as La Sierra Academy, it later became La Sierra College, a liberal arts college, and then was merged into Loma Linda University in 1967.

The Frances E. Barnard Memorial Observatory (also known as the La Sierra University Observatory) is located in Riverside, California at the base of Mount Two-Bit. The observatory was named for Frances Evelyn Barnard, mother of Marion Cecil Barnard who donated the money necessary to build the observatory and purchase two telescopes (one of which is currently mounted to the concrete pier inside the building).

Students from Villegas Middle School, Arizona Middle School, and transfers will be attending. It was completed in 2011 for $105 million and intended to relieve the overcrowded La Sierra High School, but will not open until at least 2012 because the school district is lacking the $4 million yearly operating budget. It will cost $1 million to keep the campus secure while closed.
