The City and Borough of Sitka, formerly New Archangel under Russian rule, is a unified city-borough located on Baranof Island and the southern half of Chichagof Island in the Alexander Archipelago of the Pacific Ocean (part of the Alaska Panhandle), in the U.S. state of Alaska. It is the largest city-borough in the US, with a land area of 2,870.3 mi (7,434.1 km) and a total area (including water area) of 4,811.4 mi (12,460.8 km).

Whale Fest
Sitka WhaleFest is a celebration of marine wildlife, specifically cetaceans, held every November in Sitka in the U.S. state of Alaska. Guest speakers and researchers are brought to Sitka for a weekend of whale watching cruises, presentations, sea chantey concerts, a 10 K race beginning at Sitka's Whale Park, market with a cafe, and a mini-marine art show. The University of Alaska Southeast offers credit for taking part in the symposium and local marine biology students also take part.

Kettleson Memorial Library is the public library for Sitka, Alaska. Kettleson Memorial Library opened on the March 20, 1923 under the name of the Sitka Public Library. Previous European-language libraries in Sitka had either destroyed or been sold to other libraries on the north west coast of North America. The library was moved ten times and survived fire twice.
