Alaskan Air Command (AAC) is an inactive United States Air Force Major Command. Established in 1942 under the United States Army Air Forces, its mission was to organize and administer the air defense system of Alaska, exercise direct control of all active measures, and coordinate all passive means of air defense. 2010 Alaska C-17 crash
The 2010 Alaska C-17 crash occurred on July 28, 2010, when a United States Air Force military transport plane crashed on Elmendorf Air Force Base in Alaska resulting in the death of all four crew aboard. The aircraft involved was a Boeing C-17 Globemaster III (tail number 00-0173) and the crash is believed to be the first fatal accident involving a C-17. The crew were preparing for Elmendorf's Arctic Thunder Air Show, which went ahead three days later as a tribute.
