Troy is a city in Pike County, Alabama, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 18,033. Troy experienced a growth spurt of over 4,000+ people since 2000. The city is the county seat of Pike County. Troy is a college town and is home to Troy University.
Troy University
Troy University is a flagship public university that is located in Troy, Alabama, United States. It was originally founded in 1887 as Troy Normal School. It is the flagship university of the Troy University System. Its main campus enrollment is 7,194 students. The total enrollment of all Troy University campuses is 29,689. Today, Troy University offers bachelor's, master's, and a doctoral degree in nursing practice.
Troy University Arboretum
The Troy University Arboretum is an arboretum and nature preserve, located next to the Troy University campus in Troy, Alabama. The Arboretum includes 75 acres (30 hectares), and over 300 different species of trees, as well as a 2.5 mile (4 km) nature trail with a swamp, stream, and the 4 acre (1.6 hectare) Mullis Pond. It is open to the public.
Trojan Oaks Golf Course
Trojan Oaks Golf Course was a 9-hole championship golf course on the campus of Troy University. It is for use by the general public, golf team, and students. Students are given a discount on Tuesday and Wednesday to encourage teenage and young adult participation in the sport. The Trojan Oaks is 3,211 yards from the longest tee. The par for the course is 36 with a course rating of 35.5 and a slope rating of 125. The greens and fairways are both Bermuda grass.
National Band Association Hall of Fame of Distinguished Band Conductors
The Hall of Fame of Distinguished Band Conductors was established on the campus of what was then known as Troy State University in Troy, Alabama, by the National Band Association in 1979. The Hall of Fame contains the picture and biographies of band directors who have distinguished themselves is some way or who have made significant contributions to the field of band directing, conducting, or leadership.
Trojan Arena (Troy University)
Trojan Arena is a new multi-purpose arena located in Troy, Alabama. It replaces the school's current indoor arena, Sartain Hall (Old Trojan Arena). It houses the athletic offices, a Hall of Fame, and a basketball arena that will be home to the Troy Trojans basketball and volleyball teams. Seating capacity of the arena is 6,000. The new arena features an LED ribbon board that circles around the entire arena, the only one of its kind in the Sun Belt Conference.
Riddle–Pace Field
Riddle–Pace Field is a baseball venue in Troy, Alabama, United States, home to the Troy Trojans baseball team. The field was open for play in 1931. Before 1931, all Troy home baseball games were played on the quad in front of Shackelford Hall. The change in venue was due to the number of windows being broken in Shackelford. The field is partly named after Chase Riddle, who coached the Troy baseball team from 1979–1990, winning five conference titles and two Division II national championships.
Troy High School (Troy, Alabama)
Troy High School was a public high school in Troy, Alabama. It was built in 1917. It was designed by architect Frank Lockwood. The school was replaced by Charles Henderson High School. The building was demolished in 2010. A public library is planned to be built on the site. It was listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
