Knill
Knill is a village and civil parish in Herefordshire, England. Recorded in the Domesday Book (1086) as Chenille (from the Old English meaning 'Place by the hillock') the little village of Knill sits just inside the Herefordshire side of the border with Wales, 4.5 km south west of Presteigne and very much in 'The Marches' as these borderlands are known.
Stanner Rocks
Stanner Rocks is a rounded hill, steep in parts, which lies close to the Wales border with England between Walton and Kington. A superb collection of wild plants can be found here. Where it faces south, warm sunshine and drying winds create an ideal environment for plants which you would be more likely to see around the Mediterranean. The most famous of Stanner Rocks’ specialties is the pretty and elusive Radnor Lily, having small, starry yellow flowers.
Burfa Castle
Burfa Castle (of Burfa Camp) was a hillfort defensive fortification near the tiny town of Old Radnor in Radnorshire, Wales. It lies near the Burfa Bog Nature Reserve and an Iron Age barrow. Little remains of the hillfort today save a ditch above a steep bank. On the side of the hillfort's likely entrance are three or four banks and ditches, "incorporating a torturous entrance approach," according to the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales.
Castle Nimble
Castle Nimble (also called Knapp; Maes Hyfaidd; Maes Hyvaidd) was a motte and bailey defensive fortification near Old Radnor, in Radnorshire, Wales. Castle Nimble appears to have had an oval-shaped ditched motte standing atop a high summit, with a semi-rectangular bailey, and some other enclosures, including possibly a pond. Little of Castle Nimble's history is known, but some believe it may have been established by Philip de Braose.
