Swansea Valley
The Swansea Valley, one of the South Wales Valleys is the name often given to the valley of the River Tawe area in South Wales, UK. It reaches southwest and south from the Brecon Beacons National Park down to the city of Swansea. Today, administration of the area is divided between the City and County of Swansea, Neath Port Talbot County Borough, and Powys.

Afon Twrch
Not to be confused with the River Twrch / Afon Twrch which is a tributary of the Severn rising on the Berwyn range in North Wales or the Afon Twrch which is a tributary of the River Cothi in West Wales. The Afon Twrch is a river which rises in the Black Mountain in south Wales. It forms the boundary between the counties of Powys (former county of Brecknockshire) and Carmarthenshire and, downstream of Ystradowen, between Powys and Neath Port Talbot county borough.
Nant Gwys
The Nant Gwys is a river flowing off the Black Mountain in Powys, Wales. Its tributaries Gwys Fawr and the Gwys Fach flow south from Banwen Gwyn and Bwlch y Ddeuwynt respectively and join forces to form the Nant Gwys proper which then flows for about 5km / 3mi to its confluence with the Afon Twrch at Cwm-twrch-Uchaf. The upper reaches of the river and its tributaries lie within the Brecon Beacons National Park and within Fforest Fawr Geopark.

Gleision Colliery mining accident
The Gleision Colliery mining accident is a mining accident which occurred on 15 September 2011 at the Gleision Colliery, a drift mine in the Swansea Valley of South Wales. The accident occurred while seven miners were working with explosives on a narrow coal seam. Following an initial explosion the tunnel in which the miners were working began to fill with water.
Ystalyfera transmitting station
The Ystalyfera television relay station is sited on high ground to the south of the towns of Ystalyfera and Gurnos in the middle Swansea Valley. It was originally built in the 1980s as a fill-in relay for UHF analogue television covering the communities of Ystalyfera, Gurnos, Ystradgynlais and parts of Seven Sisters. It consists of a 55 m self-supporting lattice steel mast standing on a hillside which is itself about 350 m above sea level.
Cwm Twrch transmitting station
The Cwm Twrch television relay station is sited on high ground to the southeast of the village of Upper Cwm Twrch in the upper Swansea Valley. It was originally built in late 1989 as a fill-in relay for UHF analogue colour television covering the communities of Upper Cwm Twrch and Lower Cwm Twrch. It consists of a 17 m self-supporting lattice steel mast standing on a hillside which is itself about 150 m above sea level. The transmissions are beamed northwest and southeast to cover its targets.
