Merthyr Tydfil
Merthyr Tydfil is a town in Wales, with a population of about 30,000. Although once the largest town in Wales, it is now ranked as the 14th largest urban area in Wales. It also gives its name to a county borough, which is one of the 22 unitary authorities in Wales, with a population of around 55,000. It is located in the historic county of Glamorgan. It is often referred to simply as 'Merthyr'.
Glamorganshire Canal
The Glamorganshire Canal was a canal in south Wales, UK, running from Merthyr Tydfil to Cardiff. Construction started in 1790, and the 25 miles (40 km) of canal was fully opened by 1794. Its primary purpose was to enable the Merthyr iron industries to transport their goods, and it later served the coal industry.

The Cyfarthfa Ironworks was a major 18th century and 19th century ironworks located in Cyfarthfa, on the north-western edge of Merthyr Tydfil, in South Wales.
Cyfarthfa Castle
Cyfarthfa Castle is the former home of the Crawshay family, historical ironmasters of Cyfarthfa Ironworks in Park, Merthyr Tydfil, Wales. Despite appearing superficially to be a fortified building it is a house built in the style of a large mansion. The castle stands in 158-acre of parkland, now called Cyfarthfa Park and maintained by Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council. It is reputedly haunted from a ghost that goes upstairs by the music classroom.
Prince Charles Hospital
Prince Charles Hospital is an NHS district hospital in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales. Known simply as the Gurnos District Hospital during its planning and construction, it opened in 1978. It is located adjacent to the Gurnos housing estate. The Hospital is managed by Cwm Taf NHS Trust.
Taf Fechan
The Taf Fechan is a river in the Brecon Beacons in South Wales. It rises just below Pen-y-Fan and joins the Taf Fawr at Cefn-coed-y-cymmer. The river feeds the Pontsticill Reservoir. The river holds a large population of wild Brown Trout, much of which was killed in 2006 when a large quantity of aluminium sulphate was flushed into the river from the Pontsticill Water Treatment Works, which United Utilities operate on behalf of Dwr Cymru/Welsh Water.
Cefn Cil Sanws
Cefn Cil Sanws is a hill in the Brecon Beacons National Park within the county borough of Merthyr Tydfil in south Wales. The summit at 460m above sea level is crowned by a trig point. The steep cliffs of Darren Fawr and Darren Fach defend its western side which drops down into Cwm Taf. A major limestone quarry is worked on the southeastern side of the hill. An unexpected feature at this altitude is Merthyr Tydfil Golf Course which extends high onto the eastern and southern slopes of the hill.
Pont-y-Cafnau
The Pont-y-Cafnau (English: Bridge of Troughs), sometimes written Pont y Cafnau or Pontycafnau, is a 14.2-metre long iron truss bridge over the River Taff in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales. The bridge was designed by Watkin George and built in 1793 for his employer, the Cyfarthfa Ironworks, to support both a tramway and an aqueduct to carry limestone and water into the works.
