Rhobell Fawr
Rhobell Fawr is an extinct volcano in the Arenig range within the Snowdonia National Park. Despite its modest height of 734 m (2,408 feet), it is a mountain with views of higher peaks all around, including the north face of Cadair Idris and distant Snowdon. The paths are not well trodden, but there is a distinct path up from Bwlch Goriwared, a couple of miles north-north-east of the small village of Llanfachreth.
Drws-y-Nant railway station
Drws-y-Nant railway station in Gwynedd, Wales, was formerly a station on the Ruabon to Barmouth line. The station had two platforms with a passing loop, plus a small goods yard with a dock for loading livestock. According to the Official Handbook of Stations the following classes of traffic were being handled at this station in 1956: G, P, L & H and there was no crane.
Pen y Brynfforchog
Pen y Brynfforchog is subsidiary summit of Glasgwm in North Wales forming part of the Aran range in southern Snowdonia. It is separated from Galsgwm by the pass, Bwlch y Fign. The summit is bare and marked by a few stones. The views to the Dyfi hills: include direct view of the Craig Portas ridge, with Maesglase and Cribin Fawr.
Allt y Benglog National Nature Reserve
Allt y Benglog is one of the smallest National Nature Reserves in Wales. Its position on the lower slopes of Rhobell Fawr, one of north Wales’ extinct volcanoes, results in an unusual mix of plants and trees which spring from its subterranean mix of volcanic rocks. A permanently damp atmosphere is created through a combination of numerous waterfalls and good tree coverage, and allows an unusually rich variety of moisture-loving mosses, plants and trees to thrive.
