Padarn Railway

The Padarn Railway was a narrow gauge railway line in Wales, built to the unusual gauge of 48. It was built to carry slate from the Dinorwic Quarry to Port Dinorwic . It opened in 1842, replacing the previous Dinorwic Railway. The Padarn Railway closed in 1961. An unusual feature of the railway were the transporter waggons. These 48 gauge vehicles were flat wagons with two parallel 22.75 gauge tracks on them.

Llyn Padarn

Llyn Padarn is a glacially formed lake in Snowdonia, Gwynedd, north Wales, and is an example of a moraine dammed lake. The lake is approximately 2 miles long and at its deepest point is 94 feet deep. At its south-eastern end it is linked to the neighbouring Llyn Peris (which forms the lower reservoir of the Dinorwig power station). The busy village of Llanberis lies on the southern banks of the lake.

Pete's Eats Cafe

Pete's Eats is a cafe in Llanberis, North Wales, popular amongst walkers and climbers in the Snowdonia region of mountains. Llanberis, at the foot of Mount Snowdon, is one of the traditional starting points for climbs in the Snowdonia National Park. The Cafe has long been an important centre for climbers, described as "one of the most famous mountaineering hangouts in Britain". It even received a small mention in the New York Times as "cheap and filling" and "rowdy fun".

Llanberis railway station

Llanberis was a railway station located in Llanberis, Gwynedd. This station was closed for regular passenger services in 1932 but was still used by summer excursion trains until 7th Sept.1962 and freight services until December 1964. The station site and most of the track bed as far as Cwm-y-Glo are now occupied by the improved A4086 road, which now by-passes the centre of Llanberis. The original station building still exists and is in private use as a craft shop.

Cwm-y-Glo railway station

Cwm-y-Glo was a railway station located in Cwm y Glo, Gwynedd, at the north-west end of Llyn Padarn. This station was closed for regular passenger services in 1932 but may have been used for occasional excursion trains until December 1964. The station was demolished in the 1970s when the realigned A4086 road was built along the trackbed of the former track. A Public House called the Railway Inn is all that remains of the station as was, this pub is now known as Y Fricsan.

Paddy Buckley Round

The Paddy Buckley Round is a long distance fell running challenge in Snowdonia, Wales. The route is a circuit of just over 100 km long taking in some 47 summits. The aim is for participants to complete the route, on foot. Although no time limit is set, an arbitrary 24 hours is applied, similar to the Bob Graham Round. Runners may start at any point on the circular route (finishing at the same place) and may run the course in either a clockwise or anticlockwise direction.

Brynrefail, Gwynedd

Brynrefail is a small village in Gwynedd, Wales that straddles the A4244 road roughly between Deiniolen and Llanberis. The village is in Wales (European Parliament constituency) the Caernarfon (UK Parliament constituency) and the Gwynedd Council Ward of Penisarwaen. Brynrefail stands a short walk from the northern shore of Llyn Padarn lake. Afon Rhythallt leaves the lake at this point becoming Afon Seiont downstream at Pont Rhythallt, Llanrug before meandering its historic way to the sea.

Cae Mabon

Cae Mabon is a retreat centre in North Wales. It is set in an oak forest close to the remnants of Dinorwic Quarry and on the opposite side of the Padarn lake from the town of Llanberis. The centre has been run by its founder, local storyteller, author and songwriter Eric Maddern, since 1989 and is well regarded for the beauty of its natural setting as well as the architecture of its alternative, low-impact buildings.
