Rachub
Rachub is a small village of about 700 people in Dyffryn Ogwen (Ogwen Valley), Gwynedd, Wales, about half a mile away from the nearby, larger village of Bethesda. It forms part of Bethesda community.
Penrhyn Quarry
The Penrhyn Slate Quarry is a slate quarry located near Bethesda in north Wales. At the end of the nineteenth century it was the world's largest slate quarry; the main pit is nearly 1 mile long and 1,200 feet deep, and it was worked by nearly 3,000 quarrymen. It has since been superseded in size by slate quarries in China, Spain and the USA. Penrhyn is still Britain's largest slate quarry but its workforce is now nearer 200.
Nant Ffrancon Pass
The Nant Ffrancon Pass in Snowdonia, North Wales, is the long steady climb of the A5 road between Bethesda, Gwynedd, and Llyn Ogwen in Conwy. The summit at 312 metres is at Pont Wern-gof, about one-third of a mile beyond the eastern end of Llyn Ogwen. From here the road descends through Nant y Benglog to Capel Curig and through to Betws-y-Coed. The A5 is the Holyhead to London trunk road, which was re-engineered by Thomas Telford between 1810 and 1826.
Ysgol Dyffryn Ogwen
Ysgol Dyffryn Ogwen is a school situated in Bethesda in the Ogwen Valley, with around 400 pupils. Some of the buildings date from 1895 when a grammar school was established here, but the present comprehensive school dates from 1951. The school is fed by primary schools in the surrounding villages: Ysgol Llanllechid, Ysgol Pen y Bryn, Ysgol Rhiwlas, Ysgol Tregarth and Ysgol Bodfeurig. The school has an intake of 70-90 pupils per year. Around a quarter of pupils will go on to study A-Levels.
Carnedd y Filiast (Glyderau)
Carnedd y Filiast is a mountain in Snowdonia, Wales, forming part of the Glyderau. It, along with its top Y Fronllwyd (721 m), forms the most northerly summit in the Glyderau. The average annual temperature on Carnedd y Filiast is estimated to be around 4 celsius. The summit is very rocky and has a number of cairns, as it has a vast expanse of layered slab of its crag features, giving rise to some exceptionally long, easy mountain routes, some giving over 1,000 feet of continuous climbing.

Y Fronllwyd
Y Fronllwyd, also known as Carnedd y Filiast North Top, is a top of Carnedd y Filiast in Snowdonia, Wales forming part of the Glyderau. It is the northern end of the Glyder mounatin range. The summit has good views of Bethesda, the Penrhyn Quarry, the Carneddau, Elidir Fawr and the Menai Strait. The summit was included on the original Nuttall's list, subsequently deleted and then re-included after detailed re-surveying.
Afon Llafar
For the river which flows into Bala Lake see Afon Llafar (Dee) Afon Llafar is a river in the Carneddau, Snowdonia. It rises where many streams flow down the slopes of Yr Elen, Carnedd Llewelyn and Carnedd Dafydd to join together in the valley below the cliffs of Ysgolion Duon ("Black Ladders"). It is one of several similarly named streams in Wales.
