Dolgarrog railway station
Dolgarrog railway station is an unstaffed halt, and a request stop, on the Conwy Valley Line from Llandudno Junction to Blaenau Ffestiniog and is located on the east bank of the River Conwy just across the A470 road from Plas Maenan, which was the home of Henry Jack, the Managing Director of the Aluminium Corporation from 1916 to 1927, together with its associated enterprises including the Ffestiniog Railway and the Welsh Highland Railway.
Tal-y-Cafn railway station
Tal-y-Cafn railway station is located at Tal-y-Cafn, Wales, on the Conwy Valley Line from Llandudno Junction to Blaenau Ffestiniog. This station is a request stop for northbound trains but not, according to timetables, for southbound trains (the presence of the manually operated level crossing seen in the accompanying photograph may account for this).
Caerhun
Caerhun is a scattered rural community on the west bank of the River Conwy, to the south of Henryd and to the north of Dolgarrog, in Conwy County Borough, Wales. The population was 1200 at the 2001 Census.
Afon Porth-llwyd
Afon Porth-llwyd is a river in Snowdonia, North Wales. It flows from Llyn Eigiau on the south-eastern edge of the Carneddau range to join the river Conwy. Its waters are trapped at Coedty reservoir before flowing down to pass under Pont Newydd in Dolgarrog. From Coedty reservoir some water is also diverted to Dolgarrog Power station (along with water from Llyn Cowlyd via large black pipes.
Afon Dulyn
Afon Dulyn is the outflow from Llyn Dulyn, a lake in the Carneddau mountains in North Wales. It is a tributary of the river Conwy. Just below Afon Dulyn the river is joined by Afon Melynllyn, a small river flowing from neighbouring Llyn Melynllyn. The river does not carry a great deal of water because water is transferred from Llyn Dulyn to the reservoirs of Llyn Eigiau and Llyn Cowlyd.
Cedryn Quarry Tramway
The Cedryn Quarry Tramway (later largely used as the route of the Eigiau Tramway) was an industrial narrow gauge railway that connected the slate quarries at Cedryn and Cwm Eigiau to the quays at Dolgarrog in the Conwy valley.
Tal-y-Cafn
Tal-y-Cafn is a small settlement in Conwy county borough, north Wales. It lies in the Conwy valley close to the Roman settlement of Canovium at Caerhun, and was the site of a Roman river-crossing point of the River Conwy. A medieval ferry, which operated from as early as 1301, was replaced by a steel bridge of rivetted plates and angles on piers of concrete and masonry in 1897. Originally a toll bridge, it is now toll free, and is the only road bridge over the river between Conwy and Llanrwst.
Coed Gorswen National Nature Reserve
Coed Gorswen National Nature Reserve lies on the lower slopes of the Conwy Valley, in the vicinity of Rowen and Llanbedr-y-Cennin. Its gentle landscape of small woodlands, grazed fields and lattice of hedgerows creates an attractive and peaceful lowland scene. Boulders up to the size of cars scattered across the reserve provide striking evidence of Ice Age activity. Its bouldery nature is perhaps what protected the woodland over the centuries as surrounding land was cleared for human use.
