It is home to the main campus of Morriston Hospital, Morriston Comprehensive School and Cwmrhydyceirw Primary School. The English translation of the name means "the valley of the stags' ford" which gave rise the name of local pub "The Deer's Leap".
Lower Clydach River
Not to be confused with the entirely separate Upper Clydach River which is also a right-bank tributary of the River Tawe nor with the River Clydach which flows down the Clydach Gorge on the Monmouthshire/Blaenau Gwent boundary. The Lower Clydach River is a river in South Wales which rises on the slopes of Mynydd Betws west of Cwmgors and flows for around 10km through Cwm Clydach to its confluence with the River Tawe at Clydach.
Lower Swansea valley
The Lower Swansea valley (Welsh: Cwm Tawe Isaf) is the lower half of the valley of the River Tawe in south Wales. It runs from approximately the level of Clydach down to Swansea docks, where it opens into Swansea Bay and the Bristol Channel. This relatively small area was a focus of industrial innovation and invention during the Industrial Revolution, leading to a transformation of the landscape and a rapid rise in the population and economy of Swansea.
Ynysforgan
Ynysforgan is a village near Swansea, Glamorgan, Wales. It lies just off Junction 45 of the M4 motorway, geographically between Morriston and Ynystawe. The origins of its name are not known for certain but ynys is Welsh for a river-meadow (i.e. an "island" – the main meaning of ynys – in otherwise marshier ground beside a river) and Forgan is a mutation of the name Morgan; a reasonable translation of the name would therefore be Morgan's Meadow.
Ynystawe
Ynystawe (also Ynysdawe in Welsh) is a small village in the City and County of Swansea in Wales, falling in the electoral ward of Morriston. It is situated approximately half a mile North of Junction 45 of the M4 motorway, between Ynysforgan and Clydach in the lower Swansea Valley. The Welsh name Ynystawe/Ynysdawe derives from two words: Ynys, meaning "island" or "river-meadow", and Tawe, the name of the river running through the village.
Swansea Vale
Swansea Vale is a 160-acre mixed used new suburb development site in Swansea, Wales. Craig-Cefn-Parc television relay station
The Craig-Cefn-Parc television relay station is sited on Mynydd Gelliwastad to the west of Clydach in the Swansea Valley. It was originally built in the 1980s as a fill-in relay for UHF analogue colour television. It consists of a 17 m self-supporting lattice mast standing on land which is itself about 160 m above sea level (and about 90 m above the village of Craig Cefn Parc which it serves).
