Swansea Airport (Welsh: Maes Awyr Abertawe) is an airport located at Fairwood Common on the Gower Peninsula 5 NM west south-west of Swansea, Wales.
Newton, Swansea
Newton is the name of an electoral ward and a village in the City of and County of Swansea, Wales. The Newton ward is a part of the Mumbles community. From April 2008, this "affluent commuter settlement" is represented by Councillor Susan Waller Thomas of the Liberal Democrats. The electoral ward consists of the Caswell, Langland and Newton localities in the parliamentary constituency of Gower.
Caswell Bay
Caswell Bay is a popular UK holiday resort in the south east of the Gower Peninsula, Swansea, Wales. Access to the beach is relatively easy and inland from the sandy beach is a recreational park. Caswell is ideal for surfing, holidays in the nearby Hotels and Chalet Park. The beach regularly receives Blue Flag status and is close to the village of Mumbles.
Brandy Cove
Brandy Cove is a very small beach in the Gower Peninsula, south Wales, that is much less accessible than Caswell Bay immediately to the east. It is set at the end of a valley from Bishopston village. It is reachable by footpath from Bishopston or from Caswell Bay over some steep cliffs. The bay gets its name from stories of smugglers using the bay to unload their illegal tobacco and alcohol goods during the eighteenth century. The sandy stretches of the beach are only exposed at low tide.
Pwlldu Bay
Pwlldu Bay (or Pwll Du Bay) is a small beach on the south Gower Peninsula coast in south Wales. It is one of the more remote beaches and is not easily accessible by car but there are three narrow footpaths leading down to the beach. There is a nearby gully called Grave's End marked by a circle of limestone rocks. A number of people from a shipwreck that was found on the bay were buried in this gully. The ship was the Caesar which was wrecked on the beach on 28 November 1760.
Hunts Bay
Hunts Bay is located on the south coast of the Gower Peninsula, Wales, between Pwll du and Foxhole to the east of Three Cliffs Bay. It was once a sandy beach, but the sand depth on the beach is diminishing, leaving a rocky cove. The loss of sand has been attributed to sand dredging in the local coastal area.
Bishop's Wood
Bishop's Wood is a nature reserve in the Gower Peninsula, south Wales. The area consists of 46 acres (19 hectares) of limestone woodland and grassland. Part of the wood is classified as ancient woodland. The 1673 survey of Bishopston Manor indicates that it has been wooded since at least the seventeenth century. It was designated a Local Nature Reserve (LNR) in 1975, a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) in 2003 and Special Area of Conservation (SAC) in 2004.
Clyne Common
Clyne Common is a lowland area of common land in the Gower Peninsula, Wales. Clyne Common is the easternmost of a set of commons that includes Fairwood Common, Forest Common, Pengwern Common, and Welsh Moor. This group comprise a belt of land lying across the south western edge of the coalfield deposits in Swansea which were left in an unenclosed state when adjacent field systems were laid out. Most of the land has been used as a golf course since the early 20th century.
