Castell Coch

Castell Coch (English: Red Castle) is a 19th-century Gothic Revival castle built on the remains of a genuine 13th-century fortification. Castell Coch Woodlands and Road Section is a Site of Special Scientific Interest in Glamorgan, South Wales, significant for both its biological and geological interest. The SSSI covers and area of 17 hectares around the Victorian gothic castle of Castell Coch, 5 miles, 8 km north-west of Cardiff. The steep south and west facing slopes have extensive beech woodlands - thought to be the furthest west that such woods occur.

Melingriffith Tin Plate Works

The Melingriffith Tin Plate Works were post medieval tin and iron works located on Tŷ-mawr Road, in Whitchurch, Cardiff, Wales. Founded sometime before 1750, it was the largest tin-plate works in the world by the end of the 18th century. Subsequent to the closure of Melingriffith Tin Plate Works in 1957 (the site has been cleared and fenced), it was named a scheduled monument. The 200-year-old Melingriffith water pump is also a scheduled monument.
