Addiewell
Addiewell is a former mining village in the Scottish council area of West Lothian. A new prison, HMP Addiewell, opened in 2008.
Seafield, West Lothian
Seafield is a small village in West Lothian, Scotland. Seafield lies 1+⁄4 miles east of Blackburn and 2 miles southeast of Bathgate. The village lies between the River Almond to the south and the M8 motorway to the north. Seafield has many good community amenities such as a primary school, community centre, shop, hotel, bowling club and annual Gala day. It is also home to Seafield & District Pipe Band, which has strong ties to the successful solo piper Chris Armstrong.
Burngrange mining disaster
Burngrange is an area of the Scottish village West Calder. Situated at the far west of the village it mainly consists of housing constructed for the areas mining industry in the early 20th century. On 10 January 1947, Burngrange was witness to its worst underground mining disaster, in which 15 miners perished. Burngrange Shale Mine was situated 16 miles south-west of Edinburgh in the Parish of West Calder in the County of Midlothian. It was owned by Young's Paraffin Light & Mineral Oil Co.
Cobbinshaw railway station
Cobbinshaw railway station was on the Caledonian Railway Edinburgh to Carstairs line sited near a village called Woolfords in South Lanarkshire. The branch line to Tarbrax railway station joined here. To the south was Auchengray railway station, and to the north Harburn railway station, both also closed. The Royal Mail post for the local area was dropped off at Cobbinshaw, so local addresses then had Cobbinshaw as their post district, rather than the current West Calder.

Cobbinshaw Reservoir is a reservoir in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. It is situated near the Pentland Hills, between West Calder and Carnwath. The 310-acre site is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and is popular with wildfowl.
Blackburn House, West Lothian
Blackburn House is a category A-listed Georgian house, situated just outside of Blackburn and Seafield in West Lothian, Scotland. Blackburn House was built in the late 18th century by George Moncrieff. The building originally acted as a gateway to Blackburn, the town which Moncrieff founded, after making his money running plantations in the West Indies. The house comprises a central Palladian manor house, with substantial east and west pavilions.
Cobbinshaw
Cobbinshaw is a small hamlet in the Parish of Carnwath, in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. It is at the end of a dead end road from nearby Woolfords. Cobbinshaw is at 1,000 feet above sea level on the edge of the Pentland Hills. Nearby villages include Woolfords, Auchengray and Tarbrax. It is next to Cobbinshaw Reservoir, built in 1818 to supply water for the Union Canal.
HM Prison Addiewell
HMP Addiewell is a prison located near to the village of Addiewell in West Lothian, Scotland. HMP Addiewell is operated by a private company, Sodexo Justice Services and contracted to the Scottish Prison Service. The prison holds adult males who have been convicted as well as those being held on remand. The prison opened on 12 December 2008 with capacity for 700 prisoners, with a further 96 places held in reserve.
