Loch Lomond
Loch Lomond is a freshwater Scottish loch, lying on the Highland Boundary Fault. It is the largest inland stretch of water in Great Britain by surface area. The loch contains many islands, including Inchmurrin, the largest fresh-water island in the British Isles, although the loch itself is smaller than many Irish loughs. Loch Lomond is a popular leisure destination and is featured in song.
Inchcailloch
Inchcailloch (Scottish Gaelic: Innis na Cailleach) is an island on Loch Lomond in Scotland. It is 85 m at its highest point. It is also known to some as Inchebroida. The name Inchcailloch means "Isle of the old woman" or "Isle of the Coweled Woman" in the Scottish Gaelic language. Saint Kentigerna came to Scotland from Ireland to preach and spread Christianity and the island is thought to be named after her.
Endrick Water
The Endrick Water or River Endrick is a river which flows into the eastern end of Loch Lomond, Scotland. Its drainage basin covers a large part of the west of Stirling District. The Burnfoot Burn rising on the southern slopes of the Gargunnock Hills and the Backside Burn rising on the eastern slopes of the Fintry Hills combine to form the Endrick Water which flows south before turning sharply westwards at the foot of the western dam of Carron Valley Reservoir.
Balmaha
Balmaha is a hamlet on the eastern shore of Loch Lomond in the council area of Stirling, Scotland. The name Balmaha derives from the Gaelic Bealach Mo-Cha, 'the pass of Saint Mo-Cha'. The pass referred to is now named The Pass of Balmaha, a narrow route between hills at the north end of the village, carrying the road north along Loch Lomond. The saint referred to is Kentigerna, patron saint of the parish who was culted especially on the nearby island of Inchcailloch ('Island of Nuns').
Ross Priory
Ross Priory is a category A listed building located west of Gartocharn, West Dunbartonshire, on the south shore of Loch Lomond. Although the term "Priory" implies some ecclesiastical provenance, this is not the case, being simply a 19th century romantic affectation.
Buchanan, Stirling
Buchanan is a historic parish in Stirlingshire in Scotland. It includes a large part of the eastern shore of Loch Lomond. The largest village in the parish is Balmaha.
Clairinsh
Clairinsh or Clairinch is an island in Loch Lomond, central Scotland. Just east of Inchcailloch, Clairinsh is flat: just 13 m at its highest point, and 0.45 km long. The word clàr refers to a flat surface, such as a board or table. From above, the outline of the island bears a remarkable resemblance to a fish.
Aber Isle
Aber Inch is a small island in Loch Lomond, in west central Scotland. It is near the mouth of the River Endrick, by the abandoned village of Aber, and is half a mile from Clairinch. Its name derives from the Celtic word for the mouth of a river. There are some trees on it including alders and a Scots pine.
