River Farg
The River Farg is a small tributary of the River Earn, located in the lieutenancy area of Perth and Kinross, central Scotland. Its source is located in Glen Farg reservoir; it winds round roads and farms, and has been forced in many places to change course due to human interference. It ends in a confluence where it joins the Earn. The name Farg means "wrathful" in Manx, referring to the force of the river when in spate.
Balvaird Castle
Balvaird Castle is a particularly fine and complete example of a traditional late medieval Scottish tower house, built around the year 1500 for Sir Andrew Murray, a younger son of the family of Murray of Tullibardine. He acquired the lands of Balvaird in Perthshire through marriage to the heiress Margaret Barclay, a member of a wealthy family. It is likely that Balvaird Castle was built on the site of an earlier Barclay family castle.
River Earn
The River Earn in Scotland leaves Loch Earn at St Fillans and runs east through Strathearn, then east and south, joining the River Tay near Abernethy. The Earn is about 46 miles long. It passes by Comrie, Crieff and Bridge of Earn. The river is fast flowing, with many shoals, and is not navigable, even by small vessels. The surrounding land is generally flat and is occasionally subject to flooding. The Earn is popular with anglers and fishing permits are usually required.
