Highland Park distillery
Highland Park distillery is a Scotch whisky distillery based in Kirkwall, Orkney. It is the most northerly whisky distillery in Scotland, half a mile farther north than that at Scapa distillery. Blackwood distillery in Shetland presently produces only gin and vodka (2010). Highland Park has performed well at international spirit ratings competitions. Its 25 year single malt scotch, for example, received double gold medals at the 2007 and 2009 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
Scapa distillery
Scapa distillery is a Scotch whisky distillery situated on The Mainland of Orkney, Scotland on the shore of Scapa Flow near the town of Kirkwall. Scapa is the second most northern whisky distillery in Scotland, being half a mile farther south than the Highland Park Distillery. The distillery has one wash still and one spirit still producing a single malt (unblended) whisky. It is an especially honey flavoured whisky, and less peaty than most Island Whiskies.
St Magnus Cathedral
St. Magnus Cathedral, Kirkwall dominates the skyline of Kirkwall, the main town of Orkney, a group of islands off the north coast of mainland Scotland. It is the most northerly cathedral in the British Isles, a fine example of Romanesque architecture built for the bishops of Orkney when the islands were ruled by the Norse Earls of Orkney.
Earl's Palace, Kirkwall
The ruins of the Earl's Palace, Kirkwall lie near St Magnus Cathedral in the centre of Kirkwall, Orkney, Scotland. Built by Patrick Stewart, 2nd Earl of Orkney. It was begun in 1607 and built largely by forced labour. Lord Orkney and his father, Robert Stewart, 1st Earl of Orkney, are acknowledged to have been among the most tyrannical noblemen in Scotland's history.
The Pickaquoy Centre
The Pickaquoy Centre is a multi-use leisure centre in Kirkwall, Orkney, Scotland. It has a 1,600 seat arena with bleacher style seating, which can be condensed and used as a sports hall, with room for two five a side football pitches. The football pitches host the Orkney official football team. It also has a 247 seat cinema, numerous meeting rooms, health spa, gym, indoor and outdoor children's play areas, a cafe and bar.
St Ola
St Ola is a parish in Mainland, Orkney. It is in the centre of the island, east of the parish Firth and north of Holm. It contains the capital and largest town of the Orkney archipelago, Kirkwall. Both Kirkwall and St Ola may take their name from the church of St. Olaf, built about 1035 on the north bank of the Papdale Burn. Highland Park, the second most northerly Scotch whisky distillery is on the outskirts of Kirkwall.

The last ruins were cleared in the 19th century. The castle was located around the corner of Broad Street and Castle Street in the centre of Kirkwall.
