Whiting Bay
Whiting Bay is a village located on the Isle of Arran in the Firth of Clyde, Scotland. The name Whiting Bay is thought to originate from "Viking" Bay. It is approximately 3 miles south of the village of Lamlash. Whiting Bay is the third largest village on the island (after Lamlash and Brodick) and was once the site of the longest pier in Scotland. Like all villages on Arran, tourism is important to the village.

Pladda is an uninhabited island 1 km off the south coast of the Isle of Arran in the Firth of Clyde at grid reference NS027191, western Scotland. It is home to an automated lighthouse of the same name. The island is privately owned, having been put up for sale by Arran Estate in 1990.
German submarine U-33 (1936)
German submarine U-33 was a Type VIIA U-boat of the Nazi German Kriegsmarine during World War II. Her keel was laid down on 1 September 1935 at the Germaniawerft in Kiel. She was launched on 11 June 1936 and commissioned on 25 July with Ottoheinrich Junker in command. He was relieved by Kurt Freiwald on 22 November. Kapitänleutnant Hans-Wilhelm von Dresky took over on 29 October 1938 and commanded the boat until her loss.
Kildonan Castle
Kildonan Castle stands in the small village of Kildonan on the southern coast of the Isle of Arran in Scotland. It was built in the 13th century by the MacDonalds, the Lords of the Isles. The castle stands on the cliffs, overlooking the island of Pladda and the entrance to the Firth of Clyde. It was built to defend against enemies attacking through the Firth. It was used as a hunting lodge by the Kings of Scotland, including Robert III, when the island belonged to the crown.
Kildonan, Arran
Kildonan is a village on the south coast of the Isle of Arran in the Firth of Clyde, Scotland. The name Kildonan derives from Saint Donan who is reputedly buried in the village. Early life in the village revolved around Kildonan Castle (sometimes referred to as Kildonan Tower). Once a royal seat, the castle passed hands between various Scottish nobles, before latterly belonging to the Hamilton family in 1544, by which time they were the Earls of Arran.
