Wick, Highland

Wick is an estuary town and a royal burgh in the north of the Highland council area of Scotland. Historically, it is one of two burghs within the county of Caithness, of which Wick was the county town. The town straddles the River Wick and extends along both sides of Wick Bay. According to the General Register Office for Scotland, Wick Locality had a population of 7,333 at the time of the 2001 census.

A99 road

The A99 road is entirely within the former county of Caithness in the Highland of Scotland. It runs generally north/northeast from the A9 at Latheron to Wick and to the A836 at John o' Groats. It was part of the A9 until the A9 classification was transferred to what had been the A895-A882 link between Latheron and Thurso. Between Latheron and Wick it follows, mostly, the route of one of Telford's roads.

Caithness General Hospital is an NHS Highland and Argyll hospital in Wick, Caithness, Highland, Scotland. In 2003 a review of maternity services by NHS Highland and Argyll (then NHS Highland) raised the possibility that these services at Caithness General would be down-graded from obstetrician-led to midwife-led. This review provoked strong protests from local residents and councillors.

Old Pulteney distillery

The Old Pulteney Distillery is a malt whisky production and aging facility in the Pulteneytown area of Wick, Caithness, in the Highland area of Scotland. The distillery produces the Old Pulteney single-malt whisky at a number of ages and has a visitor centre in Huddart Street. The distillery was established in 1826 AD in the name of Sir William Pulteney (who died in 1805), and for whom Pulteneytown is named.

Pulteneytown Parish Church

Pulteneytown Parish Church is located in Argyle Square, Pulteneytown, Wick, Caithness, Scotland. It is a congregation in the Church of Scotland. The church building was opened in 1842, but following the Disruption of 1843 the Rev David Mitchell left to become a minister of the Free Church of Scotland in Glasgow. The small rural parish church at Thrumster (5 miles south of Wick) was united with Pulteneytown Church in 1968, both congregations henceforth being served by the same minister.
