Caithness

Caithness is a registration county, lieutenancy area and historic local government area of Scotland. Tormsdale

Tormsdale is a megalithic site on the banks of the River Thurso, in Caithness, Scotland. It is 3 km south of Westerdale. The site consist of some low stone rows which are difficult to trace as the stones are small and have been partly overgrown by grass. Tormsdale is near to another stone row at Dirlot, and is also close to the brochs at Tulach Beag and Tulach Mor.

Battle of Harpsdale

The Battle of Harpsdale (Battle of Achardale, Battle of Harpasdal) was a Scottish clan battle fought in 1426 at Achardale, about 8 miles south of Thurso. The Clan Mackay had invaded Caithness from the west and Harpsdale was where the local clans of Gunn and Keith chose to make a stand. Despite great slaughter on both sides, the battle appears to have been inconclusive.
