Loch Garten
Loch Garten is a large Highland freshwater loch near Boat of Garten, in the Strathspey area of the Cairngorms National Park, in Scotland. It is surrounded by the tall pine trees of the Abernethy Forest, a large area (adjacent to the loch) of which is an RSPB nature reserve. The loch is renowned for its breeding population of ospreys, which lend Boat of Garten its nickname "The Osprey Village".
Abernethy Forest
Abernethy Forest is a remnant of the Caledonian Forest in Strathspey, in the Highland council area of Scotland. It is an RSPB reserve, close to Loch Garten Osprey Centre, which is also owned by the RSPB. There is approximately 4,000 hectares of forest within the reserve, and just under half of this is native caledonian pine forest. Abernethy Forest is the largest remaining remnant of the Ancient Caledonian Forest in Scotland.
Ballifurth Farm Halt railway station
Ballifurth Farm Halt railway station was one of four halts, Imperial Cottages Halt, Gibley's Cottages Halt, Dalvey Farm Halt, and Ballifurth Farm Halt, opened on the Speyside route between Elgin and Aviemore on 15 June 1959, on the introduction of railbuses. Drivers were warned when approaching the halts by white boards stating 'Request Stop 100 Yards Ahead'.
River Nethy
The River Nethy (Scottish Gaelic: Neithich / Abhainn Neithich) is a right bank tributary of the River Spey in northeast Scotland. It rises as the Garbh Allt between Cairn Gorm and A' Chòinneach on the northern slopes of the Cairngorms and flows northwards through Strath Nethy and into Abernethy Forest. Passing through Nethy Bridge where the B970 road crosses the river and gives its name to the village, the Nethy turns northwestward before entering the Spey at Broomhill.
