Skye and Lochalsh (Scottish Gaelic: An t-Eilean Sgitheanach agus Loch Aillse) is one of eight former local government districts of the two-tier Highland region of Scotland. The main offices of the Skye and Lochalsh district council were in Portree, on the Isle of Skye.
Ross, Skye and Lochaber (UK Parliament constituency)
Ross, Skye and Lochaber is a constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election. The constituency covers a central portion of the Highland council area, and at 12,000 square kilometres, it is the largest Parliament constituency area-wise in Britain. Mackinnon Memorial Hospital
The Mackinnon Memorial Hospital, also known as Broadford Hospital, is intermediate between a rural general hospital and community hospital, located in the village of Broadford on the Isle of Skye. It is run by NHS Highland and Argyll. The hospital is one of few under the umbrella of NHS Scotland in which the medical staff are rural practitioners, general practitioners with specialised training in trauma and anaesthetics.
Corriechatachan
Corriechatachan is a farmstead (now ruined), lying at the foot of Beinn na Caillich, near Broadford, on the Isle of Skye. Until the 19th century, it was a tack farmed by a cadet branch of the Clan Mackinnon. Notable visitors included Thomas Pennant, in the course of the travels that resulted in the publication of A Tour of Scotland in 1769, and Samuel Johnson and James Boswell, on their tour of the Highlands.
Cill Chriosd
Cill Chriosd (Christ's Church or "Kilchrist") is a ruined former parish church of Strathaird, on the Isle of Skye, Scotland. It was constructed around the 16th century, replacing an earlier Medieval church on the same location, and was used until 1840 when the Parish church was relocated to Broadford. It lies on the B8083 Broadford to Torrin and Elgol road.
Skye Marble Railway
The Skye Marble Railway was an industrial narrow gauge railway on the Isle of Skye, in Scotland. It ran from a marble quarry near Kilchrist in Strath Suardal to the pier at Broadford.
