Ruthven Barracks
Ruthven Barracks near Ruthven, Highland in Scotland are the smallest but best preserved of the four barracks built in 1719 after the 1715 Jacobite rising, set on an old castle mound. It comprises two large three-storey blocks occupying two sides of the enclosure each with two rooms per floor. The barracks and enclosing walls were loopholed for musket firing, and bastion towers were built at opposite corners.
Insh Marshes
Insh Marshes are 10 square kilometres of the River Spey floodplain between Kingussie and Kincraig in Badenoch and Strathspey, Highland, Scotland. They are said to be one of the most important wetlands in Europe. Owned by the RSPB, together with part of the River Spey, they form a Special Protection Area.
The Speyside distillery
The Speyside distillery is a scotch whisky distillery near the hamlet of Drumguish in the Speyside region of Scotland, close to the village of Kingussie. It produces the Speyside single malt and Drumguish single malt.
Highland Wildlife Park
The Highland Wildlife Park is a 105-hectare safari park and zoo near Kingussie, Highland, Scotland. The park is located within the Cairngorms National Park. The park is run by the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland and is a member of the British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums (BIAZA) and the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA).
Highland Folk Museum
The Highland Folk Museum, recognized as Britain’s first mainland open air museum opened at Kingussie, Scotland in 1944. Named Am Fasgadh (The Shelter) this became the third home for founder Dr. Isobel F. Grant’s renowned core collection of Highland material culture, and as a living history museum with buildings such as the Lewis Blackhouse became the inspiration for the larger Newtonmore site.
River Tromie
The River Tromie (Scottish Gaelic: Tromaidh / Abhainn Tromaidh) is a right bank tributary of the River Spey in northeast Scotland. It emerges from the northern end of Loch an t-Seilich within the Gaick Forest and flows northwards, then northwestwards down through Glen Tromie to Bhran Cottage where it turns to the northnortheast. It is bridged by the B970 road at Tromie Bridge near Drumguish and flows a further 1.25 miles (2 km) northwest to meet the Spey near Lynchat.
