Kilrenny

Kilrenny is a village in Fife, Scotland. Part of the East Neuk, it lies immediately to the north of (but inland and separate from) Anstruther on the south Fife coast. The name may derive from the Scottish Gaelic Cill Reithneach, meaning 'church of the bracken'. Alternatively, the '-renny' element may perpetuate a worn down form of Etharnán or Itharnán, an early churchman who 'died among the Picts' in 669 according to the Annals of Ulster.

The name derives from the area being the location of the barns used to store grain before being transported to the Palace at Falkland, Fife. Folk musician James Yorkston was brought up in Kingsbarns. The coast around Kingsbarns is also known as a challenging surfing area.

St Andrews Cathedral

The Cathedral of St Andrew (often referred to as St Andrews Cathedral) is a ruined Roman Catholic cathedral in St Andrews, Fife, Scotland. It was built in 1158 and became the centre of the Medieval Catholic Church in Scotland as the seat of the Archdiocese of St Andrews and the Bishops and Archbishops of St Andrews. It fell into disuse and ruin during the 16th century Scottish Reformation, after which Catholic mass was outlawed. It is currently a monument in the custody of Historic Scotland.

Kilrenny, Anstruther Easter and Anstruther Wester

Kilrenny, Anstruther Easter and Anstruther Wester was a royal and small burgh in Fife, Scotland from 1930 to 1975. The burgh was formed the amalgamation of three neighbouring royal burghs of Kilrenny, Anstruther Easter and Anstruther Wester by the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1929. The three merging towns had all received royal burgh status between 1578 and 1583.

Abercrombie, Fife

Abercrombie is a hamlet in Fife, situated around 1 mile to the north of the village of St Monans, and 10 miles south of the town of St Andrews. Abercrombie was the former name of the parish of St Monans, although both Abercrombie and St Monans had churches. The hamlet is centered around Abercrombie Farmstead. The Saint Andrews Sarcophagus is a Pictish monument dating from the second half of the 8th century. The sarcophagus was recovered beginning in 1833 during excavations by St Andrew's Cathedral, but it was not until 1922 that the surviving components were reunited. St Andrews Cathedral Priory

St Andrews Cathedral Priory was a priory of Augustinian canons in St Andrews, Fife, Scotland. Plans were made for its foundation in the reign of Alaxandair mac Maíl Choluim (Alexander I), who set aside some land (in the cursus apri, or "Boar's Raik") for that purpose. It was finally established by King David I and his son in 1140 with canons from Nostell Priory, West Yorkshire.

Caves of Caiplie

The Caves of Caiplie, Caplawchy or Caiplie Coves, known locally as The Coves are a cave system on the Fife Coastal path between Anstruther and Crail in Scotland. The Caves were founded around 875 BCE and were the site of early Christian worship, after this they were used by farmers to house livestock and included a doocot for housing pigeons (c170), the caves are thought to have been abandoned since c180.
