Falkirk Wheel

The Falkirk Wheel is a rotating boat lift in Scotland. It connects the Forth and Clyde Canal with the Union Canal. Named after the nearby town of Falkirk in central Scotland, the lift opened in 2002. The two canals it serves were previously connected by a series of 11 locks, but by the 1930s these had fallen into disuse. The locks were filled in and the land built upon.

The M80 is a motorway in central Scotland, running through Glasgow, North Lanarkshire, Falkirk and Stirling and links the M8, the M73 and M9 motorways. Following completion in 2011, this road is 25 miles long. From 1992 – 2011, the road was in two sections; the southern section, Glasgow to Stepps and the northern section Haggs to Stirling. A connecting Stepps to Haggs section was completed in September 2011.

Westerglen transmitting station

The Westerglen transmitting station is a facility for longwave and mediumwave broadcasting established in 1932 at Westerglen Farm, 3 km south west of Falkirk, Stirlingshire, Scotland. Four medium wave radio programmes are broadcast from the site on frequencies of 810, 909, 1089 and 1215 kHz and a long wave service on 198 kHz. There are three guyed steel lattice mast radiators on the site, which are insulated against ground. These carry combinations of the above services.

Rough Castle Fort

Rough Castle Fort is a Roman fort on the Antonine Wall roughly 2 kilometres south east of Bonnybridge near Tamfourhill in the Falkirk council area, Scotland. The Antonine Wall was built around 143 AD and stretched from Bo'ness on the River Forth to Old Kilpatrick on the River Clyde. The fort is the best preserved of the 19 forts constructed along the length of the Wall.

Upperton, North Lanarkshire

Upperton is a village in North Lanarkshire, Scotland, near Airdrie and Cumbernauld, about 20 miles north-east of Glasgow. It was formerly a part the neighbouring village of Longriggend. Torwood Castle

The Millennium Link is one of the biggest engineering projects ever undertaken by British Waterways. The Union Canal and the Forth & Clyde Canal were joined by a flight of locks. The Millennium Link project replaced the lock with an ingenious and unique boat lift, the Falkirk Wheel. The project launch was in October 1994, and it received a grant of £ 32 million from the Millennium Commission; the total cost of the project was £ 78 million. Work started in 1998.
