Mearns Castle
Mearns Castle is a fifteenth-century tower house in Newton Mearns, East Renfrewshire, to the south of Glasgow, Scotland. It is a Category A listed building. The castle has been restored and is now part of the Maxwell Mearns Castle Church. It also gives its name to nearby Mearns Castle High School.
Eastwood High School (Newton Mearns)
Eastwood High School is a comprehensive, non-denominational school located centrally in East Renfrewshire to the south of Glasgow, Scotland. The current Head Teacher is Stuart Maxwell. Eastwood High School is situated on Capelrig Road and has a large, partly rural, catchment area. It serves the immediate area of Newton Mearns and the villages of Neilston and Uplawmoor.
Pollock Castle
Pollok Castle (Pollock Castle) was a tower house castle built by the de Pollocs in c. 12th or 13th century and became the seat of Clan Pollock, near Glasgow, Scotland. The castle appears on Timothy Pont's map (1583–96), as a castle named Pook and also appears on Joan Blaeu's map of 1654. The castle was rebuilt between 1686 and 1694 by Sir Robert Pollok, 1st Baronet of Pollok, with a new east wing.
Capelrig House
Capelrig House is an 18th-century house in Newton Mearns, East Renfrewshire, Scotland. It is located beside Eastwood High School, and is protected as a Category A listed building. The lands of Capelrig were held by the Knights Templar in the 12th century. Upon the suppression of the Templars, their property passed to the Knights Hospitaller.
Glasgow Reform Synagogue
Glasgow Reform Synagogue is a synagogue in Glasgow. It is a member of the Movement for Reform Judaism and is the only Reform synagogue in Scotland. It is based in Newton Mearns on the south side of Glasgow. The synagogue was first known as Glasgow Progressive Synagogue, then Glasgow New Synagogue before taking its current name.
