Battle of Prestonpans
The Battle of Prestonpans was the first significant conflict in the Jacobite Rising of 1745. The battle took place at 4 am on 21 September 1745. The Jacobite army loyal to James Francis Edward Stuart and led by his son Charles Edward Stuart defeated the government army loyal to the Hanoverian George II led by Sir John Cope. The inexperienced government troops were outflanked and broke in the face of a highland charge.
Cockenzie and Port Seton
Cockenzie and Port Seton is a unified town in East Lothian, Scotland. It is on the coast of the Firth of Forth, four miles north-east of Musselburgh. The burgh of Cockenzie was created in 1591 by James VI of Scotland. Port Seton harbour was built by George Seton, 11th Lord Seton between 1655 and 1665. The town has a population of 4,493 as of 2001. Since the last Census in 2001, there have been many new houses built. The population is now about 5,460.
Longniddry Bents
Longniddry Bents is a beach just north of Longniddry in East Lothian, Scotland. The beach is almost 2 miles in length, which includes Gosford Bay to the east side, and the rockier Seton Sands to the west. Along the beach are the remains of a wall of concrete tank traps erected during World War II as protection from any attempted German invasion. Many of these are now hidden in the surrounding sea-grass and sea buckthorn bushes.
Seton Sands
Seton Sands is a rocky beach to the east of Port Seton, East Lothian, Scotland. It is situated at the western end of Longniddry Bents and is part of the John Muir Way coastal walk. Low tide reveals many rock pools, then a flat sandy bed to the north which runs about 200 yards out to meet the Firth of Forth.

Seton Collegiate Church, known locally as Seton Chapel, is a collegiate church south of Port Seton, East Lothian, Scotland. It is adjacent to Seton House.
Seton Palace
Seton Palace was situated in East Lothian, a few miles south-east of Edinburgh near the town of Prestonpans. Often regarded as the most desirable Scottish residence of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, the palace was erected in the 15th century by George, 4th Lord Seton and was similar in style to his house at Winton. The owners of Seton Palace, the Earls of Winton, had their estates confiscated after the 1715 rebellion.
Blindwells
Blindwells is a place in East Lothian, Scotland. A former open-cast coal mine north of Tranent on the north-east side of the A1 just east of the Prestonpans/Tranent junction, adjacent to the estates of the Earl of Wemyss and March. The Blindwells settlement will consist of around 1600 houses, and is part of East Lothian's planned 4800 house total. The development is to include commercial aspects, not simply housing.
Seton Castle
Seton Castle was built on the site of the Seton Palace, which formerly belonged to the Earls of Winton, and which was demolished in 1789 after 75 years of neglect. Lt Col Alexander Mackenzie of the 21st Dragoons, eldest son of Alexander MacKenzie of Portmore, Peebleshire commissioned Robert Adam in the summer of 1789 to build Seton Castle. The remains of the old building were demolished and cleared by 1790.
