Scaur Water
Scaur Water is a river which rises near Polskeoch in the Scaur hills in the region of Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. It flows from its source near Sanquhar in the Southern Uplands and joins the River Nith two miles southwest of Thornhill. The total length is 30 km . During its course it descends from 500m to 55m altitude, and forms part of the boundary between Tynron and Keir Parishes.
Keir, Dumfries and Galloway
Keir is a civil parish, containing the small village of Keir Mill, in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, one mile south of Penpont. It was founded in the late eighteenth century. The village was the birthplace of Kirkpatrick Macmillan, the inventor of the bicycle. A plaque on his home, Courthill Smithy, commemorates this. He is buried in the parish church. The church itself is in the Gothic style, of Capenoch ashlar, and was built from 1813-1815 by architect William Burn.
Tibber's Castle
The ruins of Tibber's Castle lie on the west bank of the River Nith, within the estate of Drumlanrig Castle. The site is 2 miles north of Thornhill, Dumfries and Galloway, south west Scotland. It occupied a key site, defending Nithsdale, one of the main potential invasion routes into Scotland, and as such played an important role in the Scottish Wars of Independence.
Carronbridge
Carronbridge is a village in the parish of Morton in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. The village is at the junction of the A76 and A702 roads approximately 1 mile north of Thornhill. To the west of the village the Carron Water flows into the River Nith. Carronbridge Sawmill is in the village and is a Category B listed building built in the 1850s for the Duke of Buccleuch's Drumlanrig estate.

Closeburn is a village and civil parish in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. The village is on the A76 road 2+⁄2 miles south of Thornhill. In the 2001 census, Closeburn had a population of 1,119, Between 1849 and 1961 the village had a railway station. Although Closeburn railway station is now closed, the Glasgow South Western Line still runs through the village. The nearest stations are at Sanquhar and Dumfries.
