A75 road
The A75 is a major road in Scotland, heading west along the south coast of Scotland from its junction with the A74(M) motorway at Gretna. It continues past Eastriggs, Annan, Dumfries, Castle Douglas, Gatehouse of Fleet, through Wigtownshire at Newton Stewart, Kirkcowan and Glenluce before ending at Stranraer.
Glenlair House
Glenlair House, near the village of Corsock in the Civil Parish of Parton, Kirkcudbrightshire, in the Scottish Council area of Dumfries and Galloway, was the home of the physicist James Clerk Maxwell (1831–1879). The original structure was designed for Maxwell's father by Walter Newall; Maxwell himself oversaw the construction of an extension in the late 1860s, and further improvements were made by his heir, Andrew Wedderburn-Maxwell.
Kilquhanity School
Kilquhanity School was one of several free schools to have been established in the United Kingdom in the twentieth century. Others include Sands School in Devon, Summerhill in Suffolk and Kirkdale School in London. The school was founded by John Aitkenhead (1910-1998) and his wife Morag in 1940. It was closed in 1997. It was located near Castle Douglas in Dumfries and Galloway.
Kirkpatrick Durham
Kirkpatrick Durham is a village and parish in Kirkcudbrightshire in the District Council of Dumfries and Galloway Administration area, south-west Scotland. It is located 6 miles north of Castle Douglas. The village was developed in the late 18th century as a handloom weaving centre, within the existing parish of the same name. The present church was built in 1850 by Dumfries-based architect Walter Newall.
