River Dee, Aberdeenshire
The River Dee is a river in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. It rises in the Cairngorms and flows through Strathdee (Deeside) to reach the North Sea at Aberdeen. The name is attested as early as the second century AD in the work of the Alexandrian geographer Claudius Ptolemy, as Δηοῦα (=Deva), meaning 'Goddess', indicating a divine status for the river in the beliefs of the ancient inhabitants of the area. The several other rivers of the same name in Great Britain have the same origin.
Battle of Culblean
The Battle of Culblean was fought on 30 November 1335, during the Second War of Scottish Independence. It was a victory for the Scots led by the Guardian, Sir Andrew Murray over an Anglo-Scots force commanded by David III Strathbogie, titular Earl of Atholl, and a leading supporter of Edward Balliol.

Dinnet is a village in the Marr area of Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Approximately equidistant from Deeside towns Aboyne and Ballater and situated on the main A93 road in the valley of the River Dee, it is said to be the gateway to both the Highlands (despite the fact that it is well within the boundaries of present-day Aberdeenshire) and the Cairngorms National Park. Nearby is Loch Kinord and Burn o' Vat. The village got its name one summer after a fishing trip in the early 19th century.

Muir of Dinnet was designated a Ramsar site on 22 July 1999. It includes Loch Kinord and Loch Davan in an area of complex area of morainic landforms
Loch Kinord
Loch Kinord is a loch at Muir of Dinnet, Aberdeenshire, Scotland just north of the River Dee five miles east of Ballater. It contains several islets, as noted in a 19th century book giving a brief description of the loch, and is forested with birch trees. The Loch is a textbook example of a Kettle Hole. The castle, which used to stand on one of the islets, was first known to have been recorded as a refuge for the Earl of Atholl after the battle of Culblean AD 1335.
